Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) has got its new state-of-the-art air traffic control (ATC) tower, which stands at a height of 103 metres. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the tower on Monday. Located parallel to an old ATC tower, the new tower will enhance the safety and efficiency of air transport management.

Before the inauguration of the tower, Airport Authority of India (AAI) ran a parallel operation to test the automation and other systems in the new facility. According to reports, Delhi Air Traffic Control handles more than one flight operation every minute throughout the day.

An IANS report says that at least 1,200 landings and take-offs take place every day from the Delhi airport along with overflying traffic of 250 planes. There are more than 40,000 movements that are handled by the Delhi Air Traffic Control in a month.
